The Beginning Of The End?

Pessimistic title, huh? But as I ended the last post, I'll start this one......

"THIS IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER THAT COULD RUIN THE WHOLE SEASON. You don't just BECOME a closer!!"

Peter here, and I'd like to further explain why I think the 2007 season to come might be going to hell in a handbasket. You see, the Red Sox seem to be about to commence spring training and then the 2007 season WITHOUT A CLOSER! Who are the baseball minds that are steering the ship? This is sheer lunacy. I have to hope that sanity will emerge from this confusing and potentially suicidal turn of events. Imagine building a ship with no rudder. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 Boston Red Sox. The best team that money can buy. For eight innings. Theo, John, LL, Tom or ANYONE, FIX THIS!! PLEASE!!!!

Oh, and what a time for Craig Hansen to shed his shaky image and start pitching well, superlative in fact, for ONE inning. Craig, the door is open. Can you fill the shadow that is Jonathon Papelbon? 75% of last year's Paps would be JUST FINE! And you would make the Red Sox a so very much better team. Just you and that one inning. The ninth. So get used to it....you are a HUGE factor in the 2007 equation. Totally immensely gigantically mind-bogglingly H U G E !! Go for it Craig.

I just don't understand this move. The Sox have 6 starters, including Paplebon...why not keep him where he thrived?

Easy to answer. They are concerned about the wear and tear on Paps' shoulder. Remember he broke down last September? No one can fill HIS shoes.

But the Sox have to try. Their method of collecting 'pen guys and throwing them in to close and pick the one who does best is a recipe for something bad. And I mean BAD! Awful. A possible travesty that could totally ruin '07. ll the pieces are nearly assembled, and assembled well. Right field, we'll see. There are pros and cons when we tak about JDD. The closer's role requires a specialist. And I ain't talking Mikey Timlin. His age will prevent him from the constant "get up and go" way of life as a big league closer. Let's hope sanity returns before March 1st, along with someone who is accustomed to the role. No beginners, please!
