DREW DEAL DONE

Finally! The Red Sox and JD Drew have finalized contractual matters and he will take over Fenway's famed rightfield for the next five, or maybe three years. The holdup started with the medical exam. The doctors saw structural damage that led them to believe that the shoulder might break down in three to five years, So the club, wisely, wanted insurance. Insurance in the form of being able to bow out of the contract after three years if Drew's shoulder health warrents. Smart move? Yes. Boras one-upped again by our Sox. How sweet is that?
So we hope for the best, and we certainly can look at our 2007 club with all the pieces. Except for one. The closer.

The bastard can't even come to the announcement today. What is he scared of?

I can already see disaster here. Guys like Ian will find fault in everything he does and this whole perception of Drew will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Maybe he isn't coming because he's on vacation? Maybe the team asked him not to in order to avoid the crush of questions about his shoulder/ health/ etc? There are a number of reasons. It happens.

Be glad, he's a very big improvement for our team. This is a good thing!

Let's be nice. Patience is a virtue. Having just gotten home now at noon, I did not know about his no-show. He's been waiting, and who would know when this day would come. But communication between he and he agent? It could be better. I just finished writing a more detailed post about this whole thing. Thanks for the comments, guys. I always know I can count on you. And that's nice! Read my newest post, if you can, and I'll be back multiple times during this non-football but with plenty of NCAA basketball weekend.
Trot, you and Ian are BOTH fans, so I KNOW we all can get along. This is a step forward for our club, whose only uncertainly, or at least the most important one, is who the heck will close. A first place team? It all depends on our guy who will pitch the ninth. Bigtime....and that person is?????? Wish I knew!

I won't find fault in everything he does. I just don't understand why he couldn't be there for the announcement. The Red Sox only did what was right and protect their investment.

Like you said, maybe he is on vacation or has family obligations. those are perfectly fine with me.

he's going to get asked those questions about his health anyways during spring training, during the season, especially if he's slumping.

and i totally agree he is a great improvement. he gives us the protection in the batting order behind manny and big papi. something we have never had.

Don't expect a caring, thoughtful, Mr. Niceguy from JDD ... he's notorious for not giving a rat's patootie. Another flawed personality we can put up with if his numbers do the talking!
