IMAGINE

The line-up for 2007? We'll see. But no young arms to Colorado, Theo. Mikey Lowell and Julian Tavarez? Mike will be missed. He was an anchor and a sparkplug last year, with a glove as huge as his heart. But if that's what it takes. He will be missed, but the Sox are not acting out of urgency, and that's important.
Everyone, have a great Sunday, and your comments, pro or con, are more than welcome. But you know that by now. As always, thanks for being here. It means so much to me. And the day when pitchers and catchers report to camp is approaching at warp speed! I don't see any weaknesses on this cast of characters, with the exception of number nine Pedroia. And that's only because of a lack of big league at-bats...so, without further adieu, and thank you Boston Globe.........the starting lineup of your 2007 Boston Red Sox (?).

SS Julio Lugo
RF J.D. Drew
DH David Ortiz
LF Manny Ramírez
1B Todd Helton
3B Kevin Youkilis
C Jason Varitek
CF Coco Crisp
2B Dustin Pedroia

Kayleeee...I agree, but he (Mikey) has one year left, and the Sox want to spend money, and Youk is at HOME at third base..........I'm so torn, but wow, what a number two hitter!!!!!!!!!!! We'll see...hope you're OK....

Peter, the only way I'll support getting Helton is if the Rockies pick up a significant portion of the money he is owed. Bad back and would be 40-41 at the end of the deal. IF they pay quite a bit of the money, Helton makes our lineup at least as imposing as the Yankees.

I had Helton on my roto team in 2000 and 2001. Man was he a machine! The Sox seem to be in a good situation. Colorado wants to dump salary. If we only pay about the same as we pay Lowell it would be kind of interesting lineup. I have seen Helton projected as #2 and #5. Drew as the #2 or #5 also. I can't remeber a better defensive infield than last year. Lugo adds pop but not as much D. Helton is Gold Glover fading. One year older than Lowell. I wouldn't miss Tavarez.

I'm not too pleased with this Helton news. I don't think he's necessary at this point, especially with the money situation.

Helton's numbers clearly in decline - perhaps hitting in hitter's heaven (Fenway) will help him more than the air did playing for the Rockies.

Lowell is more than a solid player though to give up for this guy.

I am still Doubting Julio Lugo since he has played with a crappy team in Tampa for ever but,We will see what he brings.I guess I have to give him a chance:-)

Ted, I thought that was an essential part of this deal...I wish we'd spend the money where it NEEDS to be spent. C L O S E R period. I'm going out...thank you all for your comments...I'll be back on Monday Monday. You (ALL of you) are the best.

Lowell's one of my favorites. You can't get a whole lot better defensively than him. And he comes up with big base hits when we need them. I don't think they should give him up. It would be nice to see Helton come here, and I realize that it would mean saying goodbye to Youks or Lowell, but I still would like to see Mike stay. I wouldn't chance it. We need to go after pitching. We've done a good job at keeping a good rotation, but our bullpen needs TONS of help. Don't spend the big money on a first baseman when we already have a fine one...

I spent the last 2 seasons in Denver, and Helton has had back problems both seasons. You can expect numbers between .295 and .310 with 20 homers. Sounds like Mike Lowell numbers. I'd stand pat.

Andy, numbers don't lie, so you hit the nail on the head...but this Monday morning, it looks less likely to happen anyways.
