FROM ESPN...The Red Sox Will NOT Offer Schill A Contract For 2008....Not Now...

Hello there...it's Peter. And....does this make sense to you? Does what make sense? THIS.... for the club to come out and say this outloud...to us, to the media, to every baseball lover, blog reader, every breathing American (my back might hurt, but I sure am breathing!!!!)........and the world, that Curt Schilling, on the eve of this oh so promising 2007 Sox season, has to wait...he's out of luck, FU, and, well, I'm out of words. Way to go SOX. It's almost as if your wallet, John Henry, has suddenly and without warning been zipped shut! Nope..I do not get it. And I hope I misheard the ESPN LEAD STORY! Fat chance. But maybe? I so so hope so! I am shocked...........

Sorry, Peter. Not only does it make sense to me, I'm mad that Curt decided to take this to the press.

He's aging, his body is shutting down and until we see him pitch he is a question mark.

If he performs well this year, the Sox will throw a bunch of money at him - and it'll be worth it - but right now they have him without having to renegotiate and I have no problem with that.

I wish Curt would stop trying to negotiate through the media and just ready himself for the season.

Beazer,
I don't think he really took it to the press. he was very forthcoming in saying that he didn't want more money. He only took the announcement that he was coming back out to hte press. the boston media would have kept asking him about it all season. its better that its a nonissue because the red sox will have manny more issues. and no that wasn't a typo.

I agree with Ian....he didn't make this into a big bruhaha.

He told the reporters he was testing free agency next year. He didn't have to say that. And he didn't leave it at that.

If he shuts up about it the rest of the season, I won't be upset. But I don't like this being discussed in the media. The FO didn't mention it until HE did on the radio.

Re: Curt didn't make this a big deal, the press did...all Curt has to do is go out and pitch, and maybe lose a few belly pounds. He'll be signed before season's end. Or just after we win the World Series. And that can only happen with a closer in place. And that, everyone, is what bothers me beyond anything.......so let's turn our attention to what is really important.
Thanks Beaz and Ian......and as I type this the one and only Beaz has left another comment. Hi there!

I understand your frustration......I though it would be an easy decision for the club, and IT WILL BE when (or if, but I think WHEN) he gets off to a torrid start, and $13 million seems like a bargain. During the season negotiations with a sharp Schill? On yes. I fully expect it.
Again, my focus will be on our corps of relievers, with the one stand-out who remains nameless perilously close to real-time baseball. We are doomed without that one guy.......second place at best. And i like the '07 Sox....they're made to draw blood from the opposition, beat them, and discard them. And that's what I want to see, with no late-inning shudders as the 'pen gets the call!
Thanks for the great comments, B, I and K. You're the best.

And I apologize for the typos. Sometimes I am in such a hurry to get my comment(s) out there that I do not do what I do with my posts....proofread a couple times! This time I did, and I think I got an A for spelling. Take care...no falling down beaz! Peter, your fan, ALL of you!
