Tito On Manny And Paps......
Tito spoke about two premiere Red Sox players. First up, Jonathon Papelbon. And this is from the Hartford Courant.....
"If I had my druthers, he would be our closer," Francona said Tuesday at Fenway Park, before heading to Fort Myers today. "It's not happening. We have to respect the medical people's advice, and I do. I'm not fighting it."
And then he mentioned Manny, almost as an aside....
"I think he's talked to [assistant equipment manager] Pookie [Jackson] and the clubhouse kids lately, but I haven't been part of that," Francona said. "I think he's OK. I don't think there's any problems."
Peter here. Not a very definitive comment about Mr. Ramirez. I guess we have to hope all is well and he'll be ready to play. For there would be nothing worse than having a player, any player, who does not wish to play. If that is to be the case, we would have been better off trading him rather than lug a piece of dead wood around throughout the season. Would Manny do that to his teammates? Before last year I would have said no, never, not in a million years. But now? We'll have to wait and see. And that's too bad.

I wouldn't worry about Manny. Its just Manny being Manny. We are used to this in Sox nation. Once he starts hanging back around Big Papi, he will be fine.
Hey Ian..OK, but....after last season's still, to me, unexplained time off, I cannot be sure! None of us can. Rumors rampant!! And to me, HE QUIT! I so hope he'll be a positive for our '07. Our season counts on him......I wish it wasn't so....but, WE NEED MANNY!!!!!
And I'll always have faith...........that's me!
There was an explanation last year- he was hurt. He had patellar tendinitis. That requires rest to heal.

Manny was hurt at the end of the year. There are countless articles attesting to that FACT. That's why he didn't play.
You're speculating- which is fine- but I've got facts on my side, whereas you're guessing based on rumor. I'll take my side any day of the week.
I meant it's nice to have you back. And I do always have to stick with my opinions....and I love that you're back commenting! But Manny quit on us. Last year. And it wasn't even a debatable point. Again, you can say this like it's a fact all you want, it doesn't make it true. You're right, it isn't debatable- he was hurt, and so he couldn't play. The conspiracy theories are just a complicated way for people to arrive at the conclusion they want- that manny's not a great guy or whatever.
He got hurt. If you're saying that's not true, you're also calling him, Francona, Epstein, Henry and the Red Sox medical staff all liars. Doesn't seem likely.
T7, again, we have to agree to disagree....I've never argued with you before....so.....we both have different opinions..I love Manny as much as anyone...you included. But I know what he did, as do thousands of us. It shouldn't prevent our blog friendship. OK???? Have a great night. I dont believe everything I read in the papers but I have to agree with T7 on this one. as much as he might have quit, he did have knee problems. Better off having him rest last season instead of having to spend the off season having knee surgery and rehabbing.
I have to agree with them on this one.He was probably hurt,But,You never know with manny!
Perception at the big league level, meaning his fellow MLB players, was certainly mixed! We agree to disagree. And thanks for your words, guys.
