Tuesday Bits And Pieces

I have a little of this and a little of that for you today. First, the this. Kyle Snyder again looked strong in his two innings of work against the Florida Marlins, a game in which the Boston Red Sox ended up losing 3-2. Every Sox pitcher threw the ball well save for Masterson, who pitched the 9th, giving up 4 hits and the winning run. But it's still early, and we're just fine.

And now the that. The round rotund Bortolo Colon had a decent 42 pitch outing in the bullpen, and we'll see him on the mound mid-month. He could only help...the Sox are paying him a million dollars, with incentives built in to raise that to five million should he perform well. He would be well worth the extra bucks. If, and only if.

Here's MORE that. Say goodbye to those ugly and obnoxious Coke bottles at Fenway Park. They are GONE! Hooray! The historic look of the left field light towers is back. Unveiled at Fenway will be "the Coca-Cola Corner." It's a 412 seat addition to the State Street Pavilion area in right field (thank you Hartford Courant). That space will also feature a state of the art 42 foot wide, 12 foot wide LED (light emitting diode) Coca Cola sign, which will shine brightly over every corner of our precious Fenway. Anything but those hideous bottles is fine with me! They were a travesty!

Well, that's it for this morning. It wasn't a huge Sox news day yesterday, but sometimes those quiet and unassuming days are perfect...nothing to worry about and EVERYTHING to look forward to. And I do. Hey, click on the title of this post for a Boston Globe look at our new "Coca-Cola Corner." ANYTHING but those Coke bottles! Have a great Tuesday. Be safe and be well. Always. Promise me...

Wish the Coke bottles had never appeared, but they did add a visual element to radio broadcasts that was useful. When Trupe or Joe said "Over the Coke bottles..." or whatever, you had a better sense of how high or long.

....or how much we HOPED one of those bottles would crack and fall harmlessly after a monster shot by Papi or Manny, or mike, or...or just about anyone!!! Thanks Sul! And now it's the left field foul pole (Fisk) and that Pesky Pole. Just the way I grew up. Except for this...2 (two) world championships.

I wonder just how much a seat in the Coca Cola Corner will cost?

Probably the same as State Street Pavilion
