UCONN Women Reach Sweet 16...Red Sox Bullpen Bombed By The Bombers

The University of Connecticut women's basketball team routed the Florida Gators by a score of 87-59 last night in Storrs, Connecticut, reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament once again. Top scorers were Renee Montgomery, Maya Moore and the irrepressible Tina Charles. They will play California on Sunday. Good luck to them.

Down in Florida, Tim Wakefield and AJ Burnett locked up in a pitcher's duel. At the end of six innings, the score was knotted at one. But then came Manny Delcarmen and soon-to-be-stranger Devern Hansack, who promptly gave up a combined six runs in the last two innings. But Timmy's performance was a tremendous spring test and he was more than up to it. The old dog STILL has a few tricks up his sleeve. Here is the game's pitching summary...

Tim Wakefield 5.2 4 1 1 1 5 5.40

Have a great Hump Day Wednesday as we start our slide towards the weekend. You can click on this post's title for more on the Red Sox and as always, BE WELL. Arivaderci, shalom, l'chaim, cheers, hi-dee-ho, see ya.

Many, many years ago, back in the day, I spent a few months at selling encyclopedias. Whew, what a boilermaking job. But, my sales boss told me one day that the very worst thing I could ever experience in sales is to make a call back after the potential customer wanted to "think it over"...and then make the sale. It would only happen about one in a thousand times, waste time and effort, and keep you accepting that excuse. Not good logistics.

The same thing applies here about Tim Wakefield. One good outing and he gets our hopes up. Let Tim go. He's wasting our time and our hopes and will ruin our record. Don't forget...a loss in April is lost forever and is just as important as a game in September.

We're paying him anyway so they might as well hang on to him until Penny & Smoltz are ready. I'm 100% sure (well, maybe 80%) that Masterson will be in the bullpen. Great to hear from you.
