Tim Wakefield's Knuckies KO First Place Jays...Boston 2 Toronto 1
Tim Wakefield rescued the Boston Red Sox with a much needed clutch eight inning performance Tuesday evening at Friendly Fenway Park. He gave up that one lone run on five measly hits while walking two and striking out three. Jonathon Papelbon pitched a one-two-three ninth and earned his eleventh save. It seems that Wakes has had his best stuff for the times his club needs him the most. He's been "THE GUY." He said this after the game...
"I guess I've just been that guy," Wakefield said. "It's not like I'm trying harder. Knowing the situation, I'm just going out there, and my job as a starter is to go deep in a game and keep us in the game as long as possible. Tonight was one of those nights where I had very good stuff."
Manager Terry Tito Francona had this to say about his star knuckleballer...
"He's been that guy. When the bullpen's needed a rest, he's gone eight innings. When we've needed a win, he's gone out there and put up zeros. He's been that consistent guy."
Yes, he has. Big Papi David Ortiz is still mired in a homerless hitting drought. Last night he was zero for four and he seemed frustrated on his last walk back to the dugout. I'm not surprised he feels that way but I still know he will hit himself out of it in a huge way. But with pitching like Tuesday night, it didn't matter one bit. Bang a tater tonight, Papi...we love you.
In other Red Sox news, Kevin Youkilis, who was a combined zero for six in his two games at Pawtucket, will be manning first base for the big club tonight and hit in the cleanup position. Daisuke Matsuzaka will reclaim his place in the starting rotation and will pitch Friday night. Masterson, who did a tremendous job replacing him, will return to the bullpen, making the best bullpen in the league even better. So it's good news all around, just the way we like it, just the way it should be.
Tonight, Brad Penny will face Brett Cecil, who is 2-0 and has a great ERA of 1.81. GO SOX. Click on this post's title for more on last night's win from the Boston Globe and as always, BE WELL. I'll see you...soon. Leave a comment or two if you can. Thanks.

Speaking of great pitching, the Jays have 24 quality starts in a row. I guess we know why they're in first.
For now. Hey to you. We need another set of great starts.
Thanks, BFW.
Penny was great...that makes two for us over the Blue Birds. Sweep tonight....I hope.
