A Comeback Win For The Red Sox...Boston 8 Texas 4

It was a wild night in Arlington, Texas as the Boston Red Sox rallied from a 4-2 deficit after seven innings by scoring 6 big ones in the top of the ninth as they defeated the Texas Rangers by a score of 8-4. Victor Martinez bashed a two run double to make it 5-4 and was followed by an RBI single by the suddenly hot once more Jason Bay and a two-run tater by JD Drew. Big Papi David Ortiz had two hits as did JD and Pedey Pedroia. Red Sox manager Terry Francona spoke briefly about the game's wild finish...

“When you think you’ve seen everything . . .’’ Francona said, trailing off. “You probably haven’t come close. That was one of the more exciting innings we’ve been a part of.’’

I know I enjoyed it! Jon Lester was good enough for six innings but struggled with his command. He gave up three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out eleven. He continues to be one of the top five lefties in the American League even on "off" days. My goodness, so many pitchers would love to have an "off' day like Jon did yesterday. His catcher said this after Paps nailed down the victory...

“A day like today, when he’s having to battle, you still see 10 strikeouts,” catcher Jason Varitek said. “Today was a battle for Jon. It didn’t come easy for him, as far as command. He had to really work today. It’s a great feat for a great young pitcher who’s still developing."

Yes, he's still developing and, with his health, will only get better and better. Red Sox Nation wishes him the best of everything. The bullpen, in the form of Bard, eventual winner Saito and Paps finished off the Rangers. Each guy gave up one hit. That's just fine.

Today's game in Texas will begin at 8:05pm EDT and feature Penny and Holland. Boston is now 1 1/2 games ahead of the Rangers in the AL Wild Card race and every game with that club is vital. Hey, we beat their best, Kevin Millwood, last night so let's keep it going. And going.

I hope your weekend will be a stupendous one as we here in north central Connecticut get ready for a heat wave WITH humidity. A heat wave is defined as three or more days with high temperatures of 90 degress F. or more. I guess we're due. The a/c is on and working great (thank goodness). Click on this post's title for more Sox news from Texas and as always, BE WELL. It's been awhile since I've read any comments so if you have anything to say, SAY IT! I'll read and respond to every single one. Promise. I'll see you...soon. Thanks for stopping by.

Wow! What a fantastic comeback. We haven't seen the Sox pull off too many of those this year, but it shows they can do it. Ninth inning, two outs, two strikes, on the road - just Wow!

I agree but they reverted to listlessness Saturday night as the Romper Rangers ran all over 'em. It's been a while since we have taken a three game series. I hope they can do it today.

Thanks, BFW. Have a great Sunday. Your blog friend Pete.
